Manhattan Reproductive Medicine's Donor Egg Program
Infertility has many causes. For women, the condition is often the result of problems with production and release (ovulation) of quality eggs from the ovary. Without the availability of a healthy egg, pregnancy cannot occur. Although many issues with ovulation can be treated with the help of an infertility doctor, medical treatment is not always effective. Fortunately, today many women can still experience pregnancy through the use of donated eggs.
To help the women from New York City and from far away have a baby, Manhattan Reproductive Medicine offers uniquely successful and affordable Donor Egg Program. Below are some of the most frequently asked questions about egg donation?
Who can become an egg donor?
To become an egg donor, a woman must be a healthy young mother between 21-30 years of age. Candidates before acceptance into Egg Donor program undergo evaluation with extensive testing including infectious diseases (ex. HIV) screening. To assure health safety donor evaluation and acceptance is regulated by New York State and CDC policies.
How does egg donation work?
Once donor has been matched with recipient, the donor will be treated with fertility medications that stimulate ovaries to produce eggs. Mature eggs are harvested from the ovary in the egg retrieval procedure. Retrieved eggs are inseminated and fertilized with the potential father’s sperm. Fertilized eggs are kept in the incubator to grow into embryos. Later embryos are transferred into the recipient’s uterus with hope to create successful pregnancy.
What are the indications that women use donor eggs?
Women need healthy eggs to conceive. With age, however, ovaries cease to produce quality eggs precluding successful pregnancy and older patients utilize donor eggs most often. Women who benefited from Donor Egg Program and achieved a pregnancy in their later years find ‘mature’ motherhood experience to be extremely rewarding.
