During in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures, each retrieved egg is fertilized by the partner’s sperm to produce embryo, the human new offspring. In this video, the American Fertility Association provides an overview of intracytoplasmic sperm injections (ICSI) for IVF pregnancy.

ICSI is performed by IVF laboratory trained embryologist.  Embryologist injects the sperm with a special needle inside the women’s egg to facilitate fertilization process. ICSI is typically recommended for couples with a low fertilization chances in IVF cycle and especially for patients struggling with male factor infertility.
